Who? Wha? Brawl? March 20, 2008

Now that people have gotten a good feel for it, what’s your opinion of Brawl? Did it merit the hype? Enough characters, stages, etc? Thoughts on online play?
Here’s some stuff you might find handy:

Easy CD and Sticker Drops

First, acquire Stage Builder Parts Set B (Make 5 custom stages). Make a level where there are conveyor belts running into a wall, and a platform somewhere in the level that a player can stand on and stay there.

Plug in a second controller. Go into options, and set every item EXCEPT Sandbag off. Set items to high. Go into your conveyor-belt-level in a regular Brawl and have the second character jump and stay on the platform, so it’s not in the way.

Now, when the Sandbags fall, they’ll stay at the wall. Use your character (Kirby’s basic A attack, repeatedly, recommended or another character that can hit many times quickly.) to hit the Sandbags over and over. Since all other items are turned off, only stickers and CDs will appear. This is the easiest way to get a lot of CDs/Stickers quickly.

Super Smash Brothers World
A website offering uses the opportunity to download and submit stages built in Brawl. With thousands of stages already made, and some surprisingly creative work (given the limitations of the feature), anyone with SD card can connect to the net and reap the benefits.

Brawl Central

Brawl Central, which has recently received major updates, offers a character, stage and music guide, along with what is perhaps the most extensive trophy guide on the net.

 WiFi Wars

Whether you’re searching for a friendly match, some serious competition, or even tournaments with prizes, WiFi Wars offers a strong system that allows you to easily find other Brawlers (in addition to MK DS, SMS, and Pokemon D/P players) and their friend codes. Next tournament is scheduled for March 29th :D

In short, Brawl is excellent. I’m not going to repeat what’s probably been stated hundreds of times already. That being said, there are some weird issues, such as when I find that playing against a friend a few miles away brings far more lag than random matches around the world. Regardless, online isn’t the meat of the game, and the multiplayer is more ridiculously fleshed out than ever. The number of unlockables is WAY up there. It remains to be seen if I’ll ever get all of them…
