Garnett Headed To Boston July 31, 2007

After years of wasting away under terrible management in Minnesota, Kevin Garnett appears to finally be set for a new team, the Boston Celtics. The proposed trade, which has been confirmed by mutliple sources, will have the Celtics send over Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Ryan Gomes, and the trigger-happy Sebastian Telfair. Minnesota will send over KG and exchange first round picks.
First off, 5 players for 1?! That’s just a tad steep. Either way, this instantly makes Boston one of the East’s strongest teams. With a definite lack of quality post players, Garnett can dominate alongside all-stars in Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. With all 3 having talented but fruitless (playoff wise) careers, they appear set to make a run. Minnesota manages to get something decent in Al Jefferson, who is already steady, and should be a force in a couple of seasons. Minnesota will finally revamp, and Boston is back to former glory. However, the Celetics do need some help. With 5 role players gone, they are certainly thin on the bench. A consistent point guard and rebounding big man should have them set for 08.

An interesting article in the past week’s Sunday NY Times details the escapades of a group often referred to as Urban Explorers: a loosely connected number of people who tread the depths of the NY underground, it’s tunnels, streets, and hidden locations. Bounded by little more than their own limitations, they travel in sewers, tunnels, old buildings, and according to one account, even found the location of the initial particle splitter used in the Manhattan Project.

I remember an episode of The Simpsons, the one with Bart creating the “Angry Dad” comic (classic), and Homer realizing that his son’s creation has spread on the internet in a matter of hours, much to the joy of the jeering people around him. He went to work, while everyone mcoked him, and Lenny and Carl approached him. Lenny told him of his surging popularity, and how his website is the number one non-Pornographic website in the world, placing him one-trillionth over all. I laughed, but wow, I didn’t relaize how true it all was.
Here are some alarming statistics:
General Statistics on Pornography on the web
-There are 4.2 million pornographic websites. This represents 12 percent of all websites in the world
-Every day, there are 68 million search engine requests for pornographic material. That is 25 percent of all search engine requests.
-Average daily pornographic emails per user: 4.5 per user
-There are 100,000 websites that offer illegal child pornography
-Annually, there are 72 million worldwide visitors to pornographic websites
12%?!!!? 12 PERCENT! That means that over 1 in 10 of every website in existence is dedicated to one of man’s most disgusting and vile habits, watching porn. And while many giggle or shrug it off, I need not remind you of the disgusting consequences and nature of such steaming Cow dung. I am not one to judge and I don’t preach for the heck of it, but that is ridiculous. Even in the media, think of what was allowed to be shown in movies 80 years ago, and look at the movies now. It’s a pitiful and sad thing to see, but this society, and the one of nations around the world (all religions and races), are obsessed with their twisted sexual desires. Never mind the damage this causes to the people doing it, think about children who are exposed to this. Often, websites will have words like “Disney” or “games” in their URL, which can lead minors, and practically anyone to such sites, even without the intention to do so. People have grown accustomed to Porn, and it will take a serious effort to destroy it.

A guy who goes by the name of “Hijabman” has created a line of t-shirts that challenge sterotypes towards Muslims (I’ll assume you know what they are). After 18 seasons, it’s obvious the Simpsons has taken a blow in quality. The older episodes were much more thought provoking and funny, and now, we usually get thrown something crappy, i.e. something about Marge complaining about something. Even so, from what’s being said, the Simpsons Movie is genuinely funny. Compared to the lowbrow nonsense of Family Guy, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
