Bubble Tea =) May 3, 2007

Here in the US, coffee is one serious addiction. You only need to take one look at Starbucks and their gimmick infested bullcrap to see how far it’s come. And with Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s, and every other pathetic excuse for a restaurant coming out with own variations, it’s only bound to get worse.

Luckily, for those of you who live near them, we have bubble tea shops. An old and popular drink in Taiwan, Bubble Tea (or “Boba Tea”) came to the US in the 90’s. The drink consists of green tea, and can have extra flavors, milk, and tapioca pearls added. There are a multitude of flavors, ranging from mango, to almond, to macha (a Japanese specialty) The pearls give Bubble Tea it’s name; and can be sucked up through beefy straws. Of course you can eat them, but as I have realized, you can suck them up with the straw and shoot them on people, as they stick to their clothes pretty nicely.
You’re unlikely to find the shops out in the Midwest, but if you’re lucky enough to live in a diverse area, you might just see one. There are tons in Flushing (one on every street corner) and there’s a nice one here in Valley Stream, called “Little Nest”. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
